I really liked how the colored xmas lights looked around the front window this winter (you could see them from inside during the night) and left them burning till just recently. Then I got the idea to get some strings of white led lights for inside to brighten things up around here.

Last night I woke up around 4 am, like I do so often, and sat and crocheted while listening to music - enjoying the lights. I thought to take some pictures of the lights as dawn was arriving. You can barely see Yoshi up on her haunches looking forward to the sun rise.

Just now I put up another string under the shelves and around the ceiling in my studio room.

Tomorrow is the operation. Supposed to be at the hospital at 10. Nothing after midnight tonight. I have felt kind of stressed out and dull today. Though I did get some things done that I wanted to do. Washed two loads of clothes and changed the sheets on the bed, cooked a dozen and a half hard boiled eggs and made a big pot of vegetable soup. Jules invited us over for tacos for dinner - that was nice. Afterwards we looked at his car, which had hit a deer yesterday while Hazel was driving into town. The car might be totaled. That could be a good thing. Jules has been wanting to get a new one. Just before dark Dave took Andy in his truck and I drove my car so I could drop it off to be inspected tomorrow. On the way back we were all together and stopped at an intersection when a fire truck went by, siren blaring, and Andy howled along with it. Funny. Earlier I wanted to go biking and Dave and Rossy put a new tire on my bike but then I felt very tired and my chest hurt - I had no energy so we didn't go. I feel like my traveling pain has traveled into the middle of my chest and put its ache there now. Any exertion makes it hurt. I think it is "fight or flight" time and I can't do either. Talking to my sister tonight and that helped me relax. Maybe I just need to BREATHE more.

The first thing that comes to mind with "renovate" was when we moved back into this house in 2013. We painted all the walls colors that I liked (got rid of the all white walls from before), tore up the nasty carpet in the living room and hall and exposed the hard wood floors, tore up the carpet in the kitchen and put down linoleum. A lot of work. Dave took out bushes and shrubs that were close to the house and opened up views from the windows. All in all I am very happy with the house we live in now. I would like to renovate it even more but at this point it isn't something I feel driven to do. Someday if we can we do want to replace the electric stove in the kitchen with a gas stove and replace at least the lower cabinets with newer ones and put in a new counter top. A new "relaxing" style bathtub would be nice and move the washer and dryer upstairs to the bathroom while we're at it. The roof over the back porch needs replaced someday. Dave wants an outside garage and workshop. And put in a gravel driveway on the other side of the house - it's where we park in good weather anyway as it is. That's the big plan. Except for all the lawn mowing this could be a house we could grow old in. I like living next door to Jules and his boys and after the kids grow up I like the idea of having my son as a neighbor.

My new headquarters - living room station. Yoshi is my neighbor. And there's Skye on the far right - I didn't even know she was there when I took the photo.

I have had the card table and a folding chair set up in the living room for a few days now so I could do the taxes on it (finished this morning - yay!) and have been enjoying having "my own table" there. Normally I cover the dining room table with my journal books, ipad, tarot cards and daily meditation books - which Dave finds annoying. So I decided today when I took the card table down I would bring the little cafe table in to replace it and try to keep all my stuff on it.

I have been getting things accomplished - all the jewelry is (nearly) caught up except for 2 more pairs of earrings I want to make, income tax paperwork is all together - ready for the tax lady when I get back, the preliminary work to pay the real estate taxes is started. I need to figure out which camera I want to take to Florida - my luggage space is very limited so I won't be taking the SLR camera. I have 4 smaller cameras to choose from though. I'm leaning towards the Lumix LX3. Other people worry about what clothes to take on a trip - I worry about which camera to take - also which journal to take.

Chloe is part of an arts and crafts show taking place at Toby Hill Bar and Grill in Clarion from 2 to 6 today. Dave and I will go over and check it out later. It's a beautiful sunny day today - but around freezing. It will be nice to get out for a ride.

New rug. Sebby in the background playing a video game on the TV.

I had most all the things in the room in colors that would match the old rug. Now I need to search out some cloth covers for the couch and chairs to go with the new rug. Olive green, brown, sienna, rust. Checking out some new bed spread fabrics at Full Moon Loom. I love all that kind of Indian stuff. In a way it seems silly to worry about colors and matching things but I don't think I will be able to let my mind rest till I have things "right". I know my color schemes are different than the norm but there is still something in me that is searching for a certain peace. I think it is weird how adding one color to a room can change everything, but add another color and it could pull it all together again. By adding this rug I have changed things drastically (to my eye) and I need to bring it back into balance again.

The kids have no school today - probably cause of the freezing rain that fell last night. They will be coming over soon probably. It's nice that they are getting old enough to be home alone more often.

Dreaming more dreams last night of searching and trying to find people, losing them, losing things, creatures attacking other creatures and me trying to save them. I am glad that I have dedicated myself now to trying to write "morning pages" cause that gives me the time to devote myself to remembering and writing down my dreams. For a while now I haven't been able to remember my dreams - I'd just wake up and they would evaporate. Remembering dreams doesn't help me to resolve the issues but at least it gives me some insight into how I *feel* about them. I haven't written a full 3 pages of "morning pages" except for the first day, but it does give me time dedicated to write.

I got very disgusted with the old living room rug that we got in 2013 when we moved back into this house. The cats pull long threads out of it, the light colored areas are dingy and the black background shows specks of dirt so easily. So I ordered a new rug - with much more muted colors (olive green, rust, ivory and tan in an oriental pattern). We pulled the old rug up last week and cleaned the floor well in anticipation of the new rug's arrival. But I got tired of the bare floor and the day before yesterday put the old bright colored rug on the floor again. As soon as I saw it there I loved it all over again. I guess I just needed a break from it. Anyway the new rug should get here tomorrow. Maybe we will have a "winter rug" and a "summer rug". I do need to give the old rug an intense cleaning - maybe take it out into the yard and scrub it well this summer. The floors get very dirty here - the grandkids (and us) tracking dirt in everyday. I don't want to be bothered with taking our shoes off at the door so that's what we get, I guess. Here's a picture I took this morning of the old rug (and old Oo-tapo):

I'll get a photo of the new rug later for comparison when it arrives.

Other stuff -

I need to work on income taxes. I did do my 2nd half of 2014 sales taxes but I still need to tackle the business and family income taxes. Blaa. I will be going to Florida to visit my sister the end of the month (yay!) but I need to get this done before I go so the tax lady can have a chance to work on it.

Yesterday I made what I think is a cute pair of rectangular earrings for the "window" series - looking forward to getting them polished today so I can list them.

I have a challenge right now of making settings for a group of 8 antique elements that a customer wants me to make into buttons for her. She wants the settings to be made out of brass. When I first was learning metal fabrication we used brass and copper cause it is cheaper to work with but it was difficult in some ways - solder didn't seem to flow as easily and it can be "sticky" when sawing it. The more experienced people said that when I got better and started to use silver the process would be much easier. And that was true. I have enjoyed the ease of silver for so many years it is a little annoying to have to struggle with brass again. But I'm hoping as I go along it will get easier to make the button settings. I think I will anneal the brass first - that could help. Going to do that today. Maybe this will be a whole new thing I can work with if I get good with brass and really master it. Some people do like brass - they like yellow and gold looking things.

Rossy eating a turkey sandwich for breakfast.

Last night Gabe helped me put all those little blown glass bird ornaments on hooks so we could hang them on a dowel rod in the doorway. I got the birds last Christmas but they didn't work out for the tiny tree we had so they just sat around here all year waiting for me to get another idea for them. I like them here - will probably just leave them there all year.

Day 17 - Technology

I didn't post anything on here yesterday - not the normal for me, and especially since I am doing the 30 day photo challenge I should have. It was supposed to be "Technology" and I wanted to do a time lapse video for it but couldn't think of anything yesterday. Then I thought since the couch was arriving today I would get a time lapse of that coming into the room. I did but it was very dark for some reason. You could barely see it. I did some adjustments in youtube and that brightened it a little. Only 10 seconds long - HERE The time it covered was about 45 minutes - I found that out later by looking at the clock on the wall in the pictures. That's Dave in the short sleeved plaid shirt.

I'm on the couch right now - brought my laptop out so I could stay with it and computerate too. But I did a very stupid thing just before they delivered it. The sidewalk they would be using to carry it into the house has a bird feeder right beside it and I thought it might be nice if I pulled the birdfeeder post out of the ground so it wouldn't be in their way as they came. I strained my back and now I'm moving around like an old lady. I took 3 aspirin and am just going to take it easy.

I caught Oo-tapo trying to CHEW the couch a while ago. I was coming into the room, saw him and rushed at him and smacked his face. How could I do that to my precious old man cat? I didn't hit him that hard really. But he jumped down and looked at me with puzzlement. He didn't get up again but kept watching me to see what was wrong with me. I eventually picked him up and put him up with me and petted him so he knows I'm not crazy and I still love him. Milo is afraid of it. He crouches down as low as he can get and runs through the room.

Here it is, and here he (Oo-tapo) is, in "his chair", which is covered with a towel.

Oh, and here is a panorama of the whole one side of the room )

Day 15 - Silhouette:

Not too clever tonight - just tried to find something that had a backlight to it so it could be silhouetted. This is the front window of the living room with the passion flower vines in it. To add a little interest I zoomed the lens out as I took the photo.

The couch is now paid for and will be here on Friday. Now I can let go of the worry and decision making obsession. If it's not "perfect" for the next 10 years it will still be good enough. It's brown with a ribbed velvety fabric on most of it and a faux suede leather type fabric on the bottom edge and sides. I'm looking forward to getting cozy on it. In this photo I took of it as I was leaving the store it looks to me like a big soft corduroy womb I can climb into:

Day 14 - Eyes:

Photo by Dave - you can see his foot there on the left.

Kept busy all day - sorting and moving things around in the basement. My biggest day yet! And I moved the rug in the living room too and scrubbed under it so that when the new couch gets here the rug will be centered better for the new configuration of the room. Dave and I went and looked at couches tonight. I told the sales person that we would take one (dark chocolate colored velvety fabric and less expensive) but as soon as we left I was second guessing myself. I'm pretty sure I will call them early tomorrow and cancel and go with a medium brown colored one at a different store (with microfiber suede-like fabric that is more expensive but it has a much better warranty).

Another old thing I came across while looking through boxes of stuff - I think it looks good perched on the lampshade in front of the nest shadowbox:

Dave took a teaching job in Oil City this morning. My job today is to get some of the stuff that I have bagged and boxed in the basement and get it OUT of there. It's not only that I need to sort through things, I need to remove things so I can have room to work. I'm just not sure where to take it all. There are a lot of art magazines - who will want them?

My other challenge today is to find something "blue" to take a photo of. So I have my eyes open. It could be blue in color or it might make me feel blue to see it. We'll see.

Johnny's at the table working on a sewing project

I put the swirly light bulb into a big round turquoise paper lantern and now at night it looks like a swirling world rotating. Rossy asked why do I do all this decorating and Dave said she can't help herself - it's a compulsion. I'm glad he understands.

Candle scent of the day: Hot Baked Apple Pie.

The weather is getting warmer - the snow is getting grainy and it is drizzling. It's supposed to get to the mid 50's on Sunday.
summersgate: (big girl camera daily)

For $7 and free shipping THIS LIGHT BULB was a bargain. I had fun putting it in different lamps in different areas of the room last night. I think it will stay in this table lamp till I can get another cord and then hang it from the ceiling inside a big round paper lantern - that will be a whole different effect, like a swirling glowing ball. Reminds me of the lights at the roller skating rink. There are 3 lights in it - red, blue and green and they rotate around different centers so it seems like they are passing over each other.

coat rack

Oh, and here is how the front door hat and coat rack turned out. Dave and I finished it yesterday:

The boards are made from sycamore lumber that has been sitting around in the basement for 10 years. Johnny cut and sanded them and put polyurethane on them and then attached them on to the wall over the weekend and Dave and I put the hooks on yesterday.

The Harter sign (established 1932 in small letters at the bottom - the year they were married) was given to mom and dad a long time ago but they never put it up - it just sat on the mantle for a long time and then ended up on a laundry room shelf eventually. I like it though and thought it might look good in our house somewhere. I think it was made by Aunt Betty but I might be wrong.

"Telling Fortunes" pendant - sterling, ceramic face, lamp worked glass cab, sterling filigree wire Listing HERE

Had a productive day. Besides making this pendant on the spur of the moment I hung leaded glass crystals in all the windows of the house that get any sun. I got 10 leaded glass pendants at the same time I got the mirror strings and finally got around to hanging them today. We luckily had a few minutes of sun this morning so I could enjoy the rainbows before it turned dark and started to snow. The rest of the day has been overcast.

my room

I've been calling this my studio but really it is more than that - it is my personal bedroom (when I don't want to keep Dave awake), it's my computer room and my music listening room and my alone time room.

I didn't put photos of the whole room up in the summer cause I still had piles of stuff here and there. I had made a promise to myself that I wouldn't allow piles to accumulate anymore in my areas so I didn't feel like the room was "done" till I got those piles out of it. A couple weeks ago the piles were cleared out so I thought I might share how my room turned out now. More behind the CUT )

"In Attendance" sterling and agatized fossil coral pendant Listing HERE

Finally got around to listing something today. Even though listing one thing each day has been my goal for weeks I haven't done it till today, so yay.

Oo-tapo is doing better. He really loves the food that we got from the vet. He is eating more than a can of it each day and we will run out of our supply soon. I called and they might not get in more of it till Friday so I need to try to replicate it somehow. Maybe add gravy to his other cat food...

Dave and Chloe's boyfriend Mike are putting in a new front door today. It wasn't as simple as they first thought it was going to be and they are having to build a whole new frame. The door has been open all day and we will have to go into fly killing mode tonight.
summersgate: (eggshells)
See Oo-tapo on the couch sleeping (lower left corner of the photo)? We have 2 of the black office chairs put together that will be our dining room chairs - there will be 3 more later to make 5 in all.

Dave and I worked all day getting the old carpet out and scrubbing the floor where the carpet pad stuck to it here and there. Thank goodness it wasn't too bad. Then we went to pick up that area rug - brought it home and tried different ways of laying it - finally diagonal seemed best. Then we brought the round mirror table over from next door (the one I plan to mosaic the top - I think I will finally be able to tackle it now) and put it together. Also brought Yoshi out to the living room (in her old cage) - I thought maybe it would be best to get her used to her new window spot while still in her old cage. She can get switched to her new bigger cage later when Sebby comes back from the weekend at his mom's.

Yoshi is in the cage on the right - her new (empty) cage is on the left.

I got a big orange paper lantern and we hung that over the table (it looks white in the photos though). We still have lots to do with getting more furniture out of here. Some of the excess furniture (couch, end table and coffee table) will be going over to Jules' house later.

Also, by the way, today was the anniversary of Dave and me meeting for the first time 30 years ago. One of the most important days of my life!
